Research
The motivating theme of creative practice stems from how animals are worshiped and represented as artifacts. What interests in me is the thinking behind the worship and reverence that was held for these animals and how this has been lost. Visually as an artist I find the damaged and disfigurement beguiling and questionable. The years of damage either deliberate or by accident etched on the surfaces of these artefacts is often seen as a norm, they are old the level of damage is appropriate. There seems to be and expect balance between what is noticeable and tolerated damage and what is not. For me there is a link to be made here that echoes the current thinking around environmental damage and the current think that views the natural world as something to be visited and used and not cherished. It seems that a norm has developed that makes environmental damage tolerated and a given.
What is developing form these observations, is a series of drawings, photographs and films that are a form of study on these themes, created images that could be seen as part of this process of worship but also looking closely at ever scratch, chip and missing leg.
